Optoma UHZ36STe 4K Short Throw Laser Golf Simulator Projector

The Optoma UHZ36STe is a True 4K UHD short throw laser projector that brings razor-sharp course detail to a home golf simulator. It puts out 4,000 ISO lumens from Optoma’s DuraCore laser light source, which runs for up to 30,000 hours with no lamp to replace. The 0.496:1 short throw lens fills a 100″ impact screen from roughly 1.1 metres away, and Optoma’s dedicated Golf Sim picture mode is tuned for natural greens and blues. It is the black version of the white Optoma ZK431ST, so you can choose the finish that suits your room.

True 4K UHD Course Detail

Native 3840 x 2160 resolution means 8.3 million pixels on screen, four times the detail of Full HD. You stand only a few metres from an impact screen, so that extra sharpness is easy to see: fairway textures, flag pins and ball flight all look cleaner. HDR10 and HLG support, a 500,000:1 contrast ratio and 1.07 billion displayable colours add depth and realism to every hole.

Short Throw: 100″ Image from About 1.1 Metres

With a 0.496:1 throw ratio, the UHZ36STe sits close to the screen, so you can ceiling-mount it above your hitting area and keep it out of your swing path. Being closer to the screen also means less chance of your shadow falling across the ball or the image.

For a 16:9 picture, as a rough guide: 90″ image about 0.99m, 100″ image about 1.10m and 120″ image about 1.32m from the screen.

Golf Sim Picture Mode

Optoma’s Golf Sim picture mode is calibrated specifically for golf simulation, giving true-to-life greens and blues with strong detail, even with the room lights on. (Make sure the projector is on the latest firmware to access this mode.)

DuraCore Laser: No Lamps, No Maintenance

The laser light source lasts up to 30,000 hours, switches on instantly and holds its brightness and colour far better than a lamp. It is mercury-free, uses up to 45% less power than Optoma’s lamp-based projectors, and has an IP6X-rated dust-sealed design, which is useful in a golf room where turf fibres and dust are part of life.

Great for Films, Sport and Gaming Too

When you’re not playing golf, the UHZ36STe doubles as a big-screen home cinema and gaming projector. Input lag as low as 4.4ms and up to 240Hz at 1080p keep gaming responsive. An HDMI eARC port sends audio to a soundbar or AV receiver, and it is WiSA certified for wireless speakers.

Yes. Do I need a short throw projector for a golf simulator?

For most home setups, yes. A standard projector has to sit several metres back, usually behind or beside the golfer, which casts shadows and puts it in the way of your swing. A short throw projector sits much closer to the screen, typically ceiling-mounted just in front of the hitting area, giving a big, shadow-free image in a normal-sized room or garage.

Is 4K worth it for a golf simulator?

Full HD 1080p works well for golf simulation, but because you stand close to a large screen, 4K looks noticeably sharper: finer fairway detail, crisper text on data overlays and a more realistic view. If your simulator software and PC can output 4K, the UHZ36STe is worth it. If you’d rather save money, the Full HD Optoma GT2200HDR is a strong alternative.

How does the UHZ36STe compare to the ZK431ST?

They are essentially the same projector in a different colour: the UHZ36STe is black and the Optoma ZK431ST is white. Both are True 4K UHD short throw lasers with the same 0.496:1 lens, so the throw distances are the same. Pick the finish that suits your room.

Can the UHZ36STe be ceiling mounted?

Yes. It supports 360-degree installation, so it can be ceiling-mounted (the most common golf simulator setup), floor-mounted or placed on a shelf. A ceiling bracket is sold separately.
