Dakota Antique Leather Suede Upholstery Fabric

Dakota is a heavyweight faux-leather upholstery fabric with the warm look of antique leather and the durability of woven polyester. It gives you the aesthetic of vintage tan or aged saddle leather at a fraction of the price – without the cracking, peeling, or maintenance you get with real hides.

We sell Dakota by the metre at 145cm wide, cut in one continuous piece, and dispatched same-day from UK stock.

Look & Feel

The face of Dakota has the soft, slightly waxy sheen of broken-in leather, with subtle grain detail and a warm antique tone that flatters traditional, industrial, and modern interiors alike. Underneath is a 100% polyester weave that won’t crack, peel or dry out under spotlights, near radiators, or with sustained daily use.

A water-resistant treatment means spills bead on the surface and wipe away rather than soaking in – useful in households with children, pets, or food at the sofa.

Durability & Compliance

Dakota is certified to BS 5852 Part 1 with Schedule 4 – Parts 1 & 2, the UK standard required for domestic upholstery and soft furnishings. That means it can be specified for sofas, ottomans, headboards, dining chairs and cushions with full confidence that it meets fire-safety regulations.

At 248gsm it’s substantial enough to hold its shape, take staples cleanly and stand up to years of daily wear – but still soft enough to feed through a domestic sewing machine using a leather or heavy-duty needle.

Versatility

From a single dining chair seat pad to a full sofa rebuild, Dakota covers the range of common upholstery projects without compromise. It’s a particular favourite for golf simulator seating and impact-side wall covering – ball marks are nearly invisible on the antique finish – which is why we keep it in stock at TEKDEN.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this real leather or faux leather?
Dakota is a faux leather – 100% polyester with a leather-effect face and soft suede backing. The advantage over real hide is that it won’t crack, peel or dry out, it carries a UK fire-safety certification, and it’s a fraction of the cost per metre.
Is Dakota fire-safe for UK upholstery?
Yes. Dakota is certified to BS 5852 Part 1 with Schedule 4 – Parts 1 & 2, the standard required for domestic upholstery and soft furnishings in the UK. You can use it for sofas, headboards, dining chairs and cushions with confidence that it meets the fire-safety regulations.
Can I order a sample before committing to metres?
Yes – we offer A4-sized swatches at £2 per colour, sent flat by Royal Mail. It’s the cheapest way to check the shade, finish and feel in your own lighting before you commit to a larger order.
How is the fabric cut and shipped?
Orders are cut in one continuous piece at 145cm wide and rolled for transit. A full 60m roll is shipped on its original core. Single metre and small-pack orders are folded or rolled to fit the most economical courier service.
Can I clean Dakota at home?
Yes. The water-resistant treatment means most spills wipe off with a damp cloth and a little mild soap. Avoid harsh solvents, bleach, or scrubbing pads – they can damage the antique finish. For dust and crumbs, a soft brush or vacuum nozzle works well.
I need multiple rolls / trade pricing – can you help?
Yes. The full-roll variation already gives our best per-metre rate, but for multi-roll or repeat trade orders email [email protected] with the quantity and we’ll come back with a bespoke quote and lead-time confirmation.
