golf simulator cabin cost

A golf simulator cabin in the UK usually costs somewhere between £10,000 and £70,000, depending on the size of the building and the technology inside it. At the lower end, our smallest log cabin golf den, the Nano at 4.3m x 3.2m, starts from £9,830 for the building. At the top end, a fully fitted 29.7m² cabin with a tour level launch monitor, 4K laser projector, air conditioning and a bar can pass £65,000.

Most of the difference comes down to three things. How big the cabin is, how much of the build and fit out you hand to an installer, and which launch monitor you choose. Below we break down each cost using our own published prices and three real builds, so you can see where the money goes before you speak to anyone.

What three real builds actually cost

The clearest way to understand golf simulator cabin cost is to look at finished projects. These three are from our published case studies, each with the budget the client signed off.

BuildSizeKey techBudget
The Bennett, Berkshire7.1m x 3.2m (22.7m²)Foresight GC3, Optoma 4K short throw projector, air conditioning£46,000
The Harris, Wokingham6.6m x 4.5m (29.7m²)Protee VX, Optoma 4K laser projector, oak topped bar£52,000
The Scholes, Greater Manchester6.6m x 4.5m (29.7m²)Trackman iO, Optoma projector, air conditioning, bespoke bar£67,000

Two of those cabins share exactly the same footprint, yet there is £15,000 between them. That gap is almost entirely technology and finish. The Scholes cabin, built for former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes, used a Trackman iO, air conditioning and a handcrafted bar built on site. The Harris build used a Protee VX launch monitor and a simpler interior. From working with clients over more than 20 years in design and build, we’ve found the building itself is rarely where budgets run away. The tech list is.

The building

The cabin is the starting point, and it sets the limits for everything else. Our log cabin range runs from the Nano at 4.3m x 3.2m up to the Legend at 6.6m x 4.5m, with the Hybrid at 6m x 4.5m starting from £14,217.

Size matters for more than comfort. A room around 4.3m wide lets left and right handed players share a centred tee, while a single handed setup can manage in about 3m. If more than one person will play, the extra width usually pays for itself in how the room is used.

Our preset cabins are designed to sit within UK permitted development limits, which means under 30m² of floor area, eaves below 2.5m and a ridge below 4m, with golf buildings positioned at least 2m from every boundary. The Planning Portal’s outbuilding guidance sets out those height limits in full. Staying inside them avoids the cost and delay of a planning application, although listed buildings, conservation areas and some new build estates have their own restrictions, so it is always worth checking.

If you would rather convert a garage or spare room, our insulated panel golf dens are built for indoor installation. The Tee Box starts from £12,999 and includes an impact screen, projector, gaming PC, turf and strike mat, with the launch monitor chosen separately.

Base, installation and power

These are the costs people most often leave out of their first sums. Using the options listed on our Legend configurator, they look like this.

  • The base. You can build your own base at no charge from us, add bearers to an existing concrete base for £936, or choose our composite post base system for £2,016. Pricing assumes level, accessible ground, so sloping or overgrown gardens can add excavation and levelling costs.
  • Cabin installation. £3,020 covers delivery, a skip on site, the walls and roof, windows and doors, and a five year guarantee on completion.
  • Power and data. Armoured power and Ethernet cable from the house to the cabin is £1,200. A stable wired connection matters for simulator software and course downloads.
  • Insulation. Cabins are supplied uninsulated as standard. An insulated roof adds £1,987 and an insulated floor £756.

Any electrical work to a garden building needs doing properly. NICEIC advises that some garden electrical work must be notified to Building Control, and that outdoor sockets should be protected by an RCD. A registered electrician can self certify that work and give you the completion certificate.

The simulator fit out and technology

This is where the budget swings most. Our golf simulator fit out on the Legend is £7,463.70, which covers first and second fix electrics, cable routing, brackets, and the installation and setup of the turf, strike mat, lighting, wall pads, launch monitor and PC.

On top of that sits the equipment itself. Prices from the same configurator give a sense of the range.

ItemPrice range
Launch monitor£699.99 (Square Golf) to £18,294 (Trackman iO Commercial)
Projector£2,374.80 to £8,160
Gaming PC£1,110 to £3,910
Impact screen£1,500 single layer or £2,160 dual layer
Strike mat£220 to £760.40
Turf£554
Wall pads£783.84 to £2,720

The launch monitor is the single biggest decision. A camera or radar unit at the top of the range can cost more than the cabin, and it is the reason two identical buildings can end up £15,000 apart. If you are unsure where to land, our Hampshire showroom lets you hit balls through different launch monitors before you commit.

Comfort extras that change how often you use it

Some options look like luxuries on paper but decide whether the cabin gets used in January. Air conditioning with installation is £1,700, and both the Scholes and Bennett cabins have a Mitsubishi unit fitted. A bespoke bar with a glass fridge runs from £1,800 in laminate to £2,160 in walnut. Lighting packages range from £432 for a warm LED strip and ball position spotlight to £732 for a dimmable hex light.

Exterior treatment is another cost to plan for. Logs are supplied untreated as standard, and a professional spray finish in one of four colours is £3,327. The Harris cabin was finished in a muted blue so it sat quietly in its tree lined garden.

Turnkey or piece by piece

You can buy a cabin, base and tech separately and coordinate your own trades, and some clients do. In our experience, a turnkey package works better than buying the building and the simulator separately because the screen position, projector bracket, cable routes and sockets are planned around each other before the first log goes up. On the Bennett build, for example, we reversed the direction of the roof ridge and built a custom enclosure so a golf professional could coach clients in a 2.9m wide room. That kind of change is only cheap when it is decided at the design stage.

Spreading the cost

If paying in one go is not practical, finance is available through our partner Hindmarsh Business Finance, an FCA regulated credit broker. Agreements commonly run from 12 to 60 months and can cover the building, installation and technology together, subject to status and lender approval. Business finance is available on suitable packages, and personal options may be available depending on the purchase.

Budgeting for your own cabin

A sensible way to build your budget is to start with the room you need, add the base, installation and power, then choose the launch monitor that matches how seriously you play. For a fuller breakdown of the technology on its own, our golf simulator cost guide lists the components at every level.

Summary

A golf simulator cabin costs from around £10,000 for a compact building through to £65,000 or more for a large, fully fitted room. Our three most detailed builds came in at £46,000, £52,000 and £67,000, with the launch monitor and comfort extras making most of the difference. Base, installation, power and insulation are real costs that belong in your first sums, not your last.
