Golf Simulator Room Guide: Size, Layout and Setup Essentials
Plan a better golf simulator room with guidance on ceiling height, room layout, acoustics, lighting and the technology checklist.
The room is as important as the launch monitor. A well-planned golf simulator room feels safe, comfortable and immersive; a poorly planned one can limit swing, compromise tracking and make the whole setup frustrating.
Quick takeaways
- Ceiling height is often the most important dimension.
- Depth affects screen position, projector choice and radar-based launch monitors.
- Acoustics, lighting and flooring make a major difference to daily use.
Start with dimensions
Most standard UK rooms are not designed for a driver swing. Ceiling height, room width and depth all need checking before choosing equipment. Garages and purpose-built outbuildings often work better because they usually provide more clearance.
The safest approach is to design the room around the golfer first, then position the screen, projector, mat and launch monitor around that hitting position.
Layout essentials
The hitting mat needs to sit far enough from the impact screen to protect the golfer and give the ball a safe flight path. The projector needs to avoid shadows, and the enclosure needs to catch miss-hits.
If the room will be used by both right and left-handed golfers, the hitting area and launch monitor position need more careful planning.
Comfort and finish
Acoustic panels reduce harsh impact noise, lighting improves visibility, and turf or flooring makes the room feel finished. Seating, storage and ventilation are also worth planning early, especially if the room will be used for social play.
